Accountability in Research: Policies and Quality Assurance is devoted to the examination and critical analysis of systems for maximizing integrity in the conduct of research. It provides an interdisciplinary, international forum for the development of new procedures, standards and policies to encourage the ethical conduct of research for enhancing the validity of research results. The journal publishes original empirical, methodological, policy and theoretical papers, cases studies, conference reports and book reviews that address issues of integrity and accountability in research. Book reviews are published periodically on topics relevant to the journal's scope. Accountability in Research seeks to serve a broad range of scientists and administrators in academia, industry and government. While relevant to any discipline, the journal focuses in particular on biotechnology, chemistry, medicine, pharmacology, toxicology, pathology, environmental science, and clinical trials.

Aquatic Toxicology publishes original scientific papers dealing with the mechanisms of toxicity in aquatic environments and the understanding of responses to toxic agents at community, species, tissue, cellular and subcellular level, including aspects of uptake, metabolism and excretion of toxicants; understanding effects of toxic substances on aquatic ecosystems; toxicant-induced alterations in organisms as evinced, for example, through biochemical and physiological reactions, including adaptive responses; the development of procedures and techniques that significantly advance the understanding of processes and events that produce toxic effects; in-depth studies of human health aspects of aquatic toxicology. Chemical and other identification of toxicants will be considered when related to the understanding of perturbations in life processes. Reports of laboratory and field investigations may be accepted; however, the findings should contribute to the understanding of processes and mechanisms.

Drug Metabolism and Disposition will consider for publication manuscripts describing the results of original research that contribute significant and novel information on xenobiotic metabolism, transport, and disposition. The term xenobiotic includes therapeutic agents as well as environmental chemicals. Research may involve the use of in vivo or in vitro approaches, including cultured cells and heterologous expression systems. Manuscripts that describe mechanistic aspects of xenobiotic metabolism and transport as well as those examining mechanisms that affect expression and regulation of drug-metabolizing enzymes and transporters, including genetic variability, are encouraged. Manuscripts concerned with genetic, nutritional, or hormonal factors that influence the biological fate of chemicals are also of interest, as are those that address the toxicologic consequences of xenobiotic metabolism. We continue to welcome manuscripts describing metabolite identification and/or identification of specific enzymes responsible for particular metabolic pathways, provided that the studies are thorough and rigorous. Manuscripts presenting the results of pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic studies that address mechanisms underlying drug disposition and response and/or address clearly defined hypotheses are invited. Studies lacking mechanistic insight or dealing only with descriptive parent drug pharmacokinetics are not encouraged.

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment emphasizes technical developments and data arising from environmental monitoring and assessment the use of scientific principles in the design of monitoring systems at the local regional and global scales and the use of monitoring data in assessing the consequences of natural resource management actions and pollution risks to man and the environment. The journal covers a wide range of pollutants and examines monitoring systems designed to estimate exposure both at the individual and population levels. The journal also focuses on the development of monitoring systems related to the management of various renewable natural resources in for instance agriculture fisheries and forests. The scope of the journal extends to the use of monitoring in pollution assessment and particular emphasis is given to the synthesis of monitoring data with toxicological epidemiological and health data as well as with pre-market screening results. The journal also includes research and monitoring systems that help assess anthropogenic impacts on natural resources and the environment from numerous activities such as harvesting development and land use changes. Geographic information system analyses and remote sensing studies relating such activities to land cover changes that affect e.g. biodiversity and global climate change are also within the purview of the journal. Examples of specific areas of interest are: The design and development of single medium and multimedia monitoring systems sampling techniques optimization of monitoring networks data handling quality and assurance procedures operational costs. The scientific basis for monitoring: scaling methods the use of biological indicators dynamic and commitment models pollution indices etc. Exposure assessment: the development of monitoring systems which allow direct or indirect estimates of pollutant exposure to critical receptors. Methods and procedures of pollution risk assessment relating to sources pathways of exposure trends in time and space anticipatory systems evaluation of environmental quality and of management practice. Monitoring systems designed to detect changes in land use patterns.
